Psychologist in Connecticut for adult ADHD, Autism & OCD
I'm Dr. Rachel Frank, a licensed clinical psychologist in Connecticut. I test adults for ADHD and Autism, treat OCD with ERP, and coach parents of neurodivergent kids, all by secure video from Greenwich to Hartford.
Connecticut is a strange place to look for a specialist. If you live in lower Fairfield County you're surrounded by clinicians, and you still might wait months for someone who actually does adult ADHD testing. Go north or east and the map thins out quickly. People end up driving to Stamford, or into Manhattan, or giving up on the idea entirely.
I'm licensed here, my practice is entirely telehealth, and I only work on a few things: adult ADHD, Autism, OCD, and helping parents whose kids are running on a nervous system nobody has explained to them yet.
Who I see across Connecticut
My Connecticut license covers the whole state. I work with adults along the Gold Coast in Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, and Westport, through Fairfield, Bridgeport, and Stratford, out to New Haven and the shoreline, up through Waterbury, Danbury, and Litchfield County, and into Hartford, West Hartford, and the river valley.
A good number of my Connecticut clients commute. If you sleep in Fairfield County and work in Manhattan, the licensing question that usually trips people up is which state you're in during the session. Because I hold licenses in both New York and Connecticut, that question stops mattering, and you can take a session from your kitchen on Tuesday and from your office on Thursday.
What I offer Connecticut clients
Adult ADHD evaluation
Two to three video sessions plus questionnaires. The point isn't just a yes or no. It's understanding why you can hold a demanding job together and still not open the mail. See ADHD Assessment in Connecticut: A Guide for Adults.
Adult Autism assessment (MIGDAS)
About three sessions built on the MIGDAS interview, which asks how you actually experience sound, texture, and social contact instead of scoring you against a checklist. Written up in Adult Autism Assessment in NY & CT.
ERP therapy for OCD
Exposure and Response Prevention for contamination fears, Pure O, relationship OCD, harm intrusions, scrupulosity, and health anxiety. If previous therapy for OCD felt like circling the same drain, the absence of ERP is usually why. More in Finding an OCD Therapist.
Parent coaching, including PDA
For Connecticut parents whose child treats an ordinary request as a threat. We work on demand pressure and reading the nervous system rather than escalating consequences. Coaching isn't limited by state licensing. See Parent Coaching for Neurodivergent Children & PDA.
Therapy and intensives
Individual therapy at $300 for 45 minutes, covering OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and binge eating. Multi-hour intensives when a weekly session isn't enough to get traction.
Why specialization matters here
Connecticut has no shortage of thoughtful, well-trained generalist therapists. What it has less of is clinicians who were specifically trained in ERP for OCD, or who do adult Autism assessment with an instrument designed for adults who mask. Those are narrow skills, and they're the ones I built a practice around.
My Ph.D. is from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University and my B.A. is from Stanford. I trained at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, at the Bronx VA where I specialized in DBT, and at The Center for CBT, where I trained in ERP. I'm CBT-trained and pull from ERP, DBT, and ACT depending on what a person is working on.
I also have ADHD and I'm raising neurodivergent kids, which is the part that changes how these conversations go. I'm not going to be surprised by anything you tell me about the gap between how capable you look and how hard it feels.
Fees and insurance for Connecticut clients
I'm private pay and don't bill insurance directly. You get a superbill after every session to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Connecticut plans differ a lot in what they'll actually pay back, so the useful move is to call your insurer and ask specifically about out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage before you commit.
Individual therapy is $300 per 45-minute session. Evaluations and intensives depend on scope, and we'll go through the cost on the free 15-minute call.
Common questions from Connecticut clients
Are you licensed to practice psychology in Connecticut?
Yes. I hold a clinical psychology license in Connecticut in addition to New York, so I can see any adult physically located in Connecticut by secure telehealth.
Where can I get an adult ADHD evaluation in Connecticut?
I run adult ADHD evaluations by video for clients anywhere in Connecticut, usually across two to three sessions with standardized questionnaires in between. Adult testing is thinner on the ground in Connecticut than a lot of people expect, especially once you get north of the shoreline, so telehealth removes the drive to Stamford or into the city.
Do you offer adult Autism assessments in Connecticut?
Yes, using the MIGDAS interview, which is a sensory-based conversation rather than an observational checklist. It usually takes about three sessions. It's a better fit for adults who learned to mask early and were never flagged as children, which describes most of the Connecticut adults who come to me for an Autism assessment.
How do I find an ERP-trained OCD therapist in Connecticut?
Ask any prospective therapist whether they were specifically trained in Exposure and Response Prevention and how regularly they deliver it. ERP-trained clinicians are genuinely scarce in Connecticut outside a couple of specialty centers. I trained in ERP at The Center for CBT and use it as the primary treatment for OCD.
Do you take insurance in Connecticut?
No, I'm a private-pay practice. You get a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Connecticut plans vary widely on what they reimburse, so call your plan and ask about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits before you decide.
Can I see you if I live in Connecticut but work in New York?
Yes, and this is common along the Metro-North corridor. Because I'm licensed in both states, it doesn't create a problem if you're at home in Darien some days and at a desk in Midtown on others. What matters for licensing is which state you are physically in during the session, and both are covered.
